Kathmandu Hiking Tour:
Nepal is a mountainous country, the coverage of plains is only about 17 percentage. So therefore Nepal has a lot to offer to the tourists visiting Nepal for treks or hikes. A lot of tourists know about the peaks and summits of Nepal like Mount Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Kanchanjunga, and Dhaulagiri. But the hiking destinations are not brought into the limelight.
We don’t need to go far to search for hiking trails. Kathmandu is surrounded by hill stations from all sides which are ideal destinations for hiking.
Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal, which is also known as the city of temples. More than houses we can find temples in Kathmandu. In every nooks and corner of the city, there are some idols worshipped as gods. The majority of hiking destinations are in the mainstream due to temples.
Some major hiking tours in Kathmandu are:
Nagarkot:
Hike to Nagarkot (2195m), one of the highest hill surrounding Kathmandu valley is popular to see the beautiful sunrise and sunset along with the panoramic view of Everest, Kanchanjunga, and Dhaulagiri if the weather is clear. Not too far from the city, the place is an excellent choice for people for a quick night out for refreshment.
Champadevi:
Champadevi (2278m) is now an emerging tourist destination located in the southern part of the valley. The two hours walk from Pharping into the woods crossing Newari settlement leads to the view-point of Champadevi hill. The hilltop area is dedicated to goddess Champadevi and is a great spot for lunch and rest enjoying the beautiful view of Kathmandu.
Chandragiri:
Chandragiri (2729m) is the most developed hill station in Kathmandu. The hilltop is dedicated as a temple to worship lord Mahadev as Bhaleshwar temple. Now there is a viewpoint, resort, restaurants, cable car ride, and other things to add up to the attraction of Champadevi. You can see the spectacular view of Kanchanjunga, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Everest, Gaurishankar, Langtang Himal, and other peaks. Historically Chandragiri is the viewpoint from where king Prithivi Narayan Shah envisioned to unify Nepal.
Nagarjun:
Nagarjun hill holds importance in Buddhist mythology. It is believed that it was a meditation spot for a Buddhist sage named Nagarjun. He is believed to have meditated in the caves in the Nagarjun hills when Kathmandu valley was a lake. Now the Nagarjun hill is a part of the national park so you must follow the guidelines and code of conduct while hiking in the region.
Phulchowki:
Phulchowki (2762m) is the highest hill station surrounding the valley. The hike to Phulchowki commences from the Godawari botanical garden. Phulchowki is a great spot for bird watchers. The trail is mostly graveled road for two and four-wheelers.
Shivapuri:
Shivapuri (2732m) is situated in the northern part of the valley. It is the second-highest hill surrounding the Kathmandu valley. Hiking in the Shivapuri region will provide you multiple options for a short hike like Nagi Gompa, Bishnudwar, and Baghdwar.
Hence, the hiking spots surrounding Kathmandu valley are easy and even freshers can hike through the region. Additional permits are not required rather just National park entry fees are required to hike.
