The three high passes of Everest is the wholesome combination of 3 most popular and adventurous passes in the Everest region. It involves crossing of three most exciting passes commencing with Kongma La (5,535m/18,159), Cho La (5,380m/17,650ft) and finally Renjo La (5,388m/17,513ft).
The trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2800m) kickstarting the ascend with a short trek to Phakding, a small Sherpa Village, up through the valley of the milky river, known as Dudh Koshi amongst the locals to Namche Bazaar, the capital of the Sherpa country, exploring the riches of the cultures and traditions of the people in the local village. The trek move towards Tengboche, through Khunde and khumjung below Khumbuyula, a sacred mountain of the Sherpas in the Khumbu valley where one can bare witness the skull of mystical yeti. Tengboche monastery in Tengboche, (3867m) serves as a major landmark of the devotion of the Sherpa community towards Buddhism making it not only a religious centre but the breathtaking panorama that the mountains construct around the area resembles a beautiful set work of a wisely crafted movie including the Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse and Lhotse.
This particular trek is an adventurous spoil not for the faintest of heart and of course body because it a 23 days long rigorous trek into the wilds of Himalaya. Having said that, it is a composition of hard trek and spectacular sceneries that involve the world’s tallest mountains, the heartwarming welcome and hospitality of the Sherpa community and of course, there’s the beauty of an experience of a lifetime that will you put the miseries of the mortal body out of your senses.
The trek reaches its first excitement, Kongma La, when it takes a right from Dingboche, a one day’s stop from Tengboche reaching Chhukung. Kongma La is the newest edition to the high passes trek as it was recently discovered by Sherpas. The Kongma La takes you to Lobuche along the Everest Base Camp trail after descending from Kongma la crossing the Khumbu Glacier. The trek will again leave the Everest Base Camp trek in Lobuche after ascending to Kalapatthar and base camp and continue to Cho La pass, the next excitement of the trek.
Cho La pass is sometimes filled with rocks and icy creeks and snowy trails, so mind your way throughout the trail, requiring crampons during snowfalls. This pass connects the trek with Gokyo valley after crossing Ngozumpa. The trek rests for the day and after an outlook of the Gokyo Lake and Gokyo Ri at the Gokyo Valley, then continues towards its final pass, the Renjo La. The crossing of Renjo La takes you to Thami Valley eventually descending to Namche Bazaar and then to Lukla .
